I just did a bunch of research as part of setting up DocuSign in a CPQ Salesforce and wanted to compile the details here in case it saves anyone the time and effort I just spent trying to make sense of DocuSign for CPQ. DocuSign has a Salesforce app on the AppExchange, but that app isn’t very compatible with CPQ. So Salesforce recommends using two legacy DocuSign packages that are more compatible with CPQ: https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=000355806&type=1
The impression I got from reading the documentation is that this new DocuSign package is very new and they’re gradually building out CPQ functionality, until then CPQ people can use the legacy apps: https://support.docusign.com/en/guides/legacy-dfs-downloads-page
The new DocuSign app doesn’t tightly integrate with Quote Documents – users have to create the Quote Document, download, add to Files – then it works fine from there. The legacy app works directly from the Quote Document – users can send with DocuSign right from there.
With the ‘legacy’ package – it’s tightly integrated with CPQ. So when the user goes to create a Quote the option to ‘Send with DocuSign’ is right there:
No need to generate the doc, then send – just send as you go. The problem I found with the new DocuSign app is it’s not integrated with the CPQ flow and pulls documents for signature from Files, while CPQ saves to Notes & Attachments. So if using the new DocuSign app, users will have to generate the Quote, save it, move it to Files then can easily send from there:
If you’re on the legacy DocuSign for CPQ App, I would not upgrade to the new DocuSign application just yet. However, if you’re just starting on DocuSign I’d recommend starting on the new DocuSign application, getting your users familiar with this workflow, then improving it as DocuSign rolls out new, more CPQ compatible features. While the legacy DocuSign apps are more tightly integrated with CPQ, DocuSign is clear that they are not adding any new functionality to those apps.
